Tasting - Chateau Serres Sainte Lucie Corbieres

Name: Château Serres Sainte Lucie Corbières
Variety: Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre
Region: Corbières
Country: France
Year: non-vintage
Price: $4.95

Shop Review: Superb dark garnet color with a few reflections of dark orange. Intense nose of ripe fruits, spices, and roasted coffee. The palate is rounded and full, with silky matured tannins and hints of vanilla. This wine is rich and powerful with layers of tannins (Vintage Cellar).

Personal Review: The first thing I noticed about the the Chateau Serres Sainte Lucie Corbieres was the extremely dark color of it. It was so deep red, it was almost black. My initial reaction when smelling this wine was simply, “WHOA!” While I have smelled wines that I didn’t find particularly pleasing, I have never been genuinely grossed out by the aromas of one as much as I was with this wine. It reminded me of rotten bananas. While it was extremely hard to move past the nose of the wine, when tasting it, there was an overpowering amount of rose on the palate. I literally felt like I was eating a rose. The finish was extremely oaked and spiced, and kind of reminded me of cinnamon. I have never disliked a wine so much, and would only recommend it to those with very mature palates.
